Canadian Parliamentarians accept the recommendation to use Magnitsky Act to sanction Hong Kong officials.
On 27 of November, over 60 Canadian Parliamentarians and staff have attended the event “ Hong Kong at a Critical Time”. This Parliamentarian event was hosted by Garnett Genuis MP and Kenny Chiu MP. Hong Kong Watch co-founder Aileen Calverley and Joey Siu of HKIAD were among the speakers.

James Bezan MP, Tom Kmiec MP, Michael Barrett MP, Heather McPherson MP, Marie-France Lalonde MP and Senator Victor Oh joined this Parliamentary event to show support for Hong Kong’s Freedoms and Democracy. MPs from all three parties, Conservative, Liberal and NDP have attended.

Ms Calverley of Hong Kong Watch recommended the use of Magnitsky Legislation to sanction Hong Kong officials and police who are responsible for the abuse of human rights. It was widely accepted by Members of Parliament during discussion. A sanction list was requested by MPs.
