When I spent a month learning Indonesian at a language school in Yogyakarta and Bali recently, I did not imagine that two months later it would come in handy in relation to the crisis in Hong Kong. Yet when I learned of the horrific case of Indonesian journalist Veby Mega Indah, shot in the eye and left permanently blinded by a Hong Kong policeman as she simply did her job as a reporter, my heart went out to her. And as an expression of solidarity, I tweeted a message of support in my limited, very bad Indonesian.

Canadian Parliamentarians accept the recommendation to use Magnitsky Act to sanction Hong Kong officials.
On 27 of November, over 60 Canadian Parliamentarians and staff have attended the event “ Hong Kong at a Critical Time”. This Parliamentarian event was hosted by Garnett Genuis MP and Kenny Chiu MP. Hong Kong Watch co-founder Aileen Calverley and Joey Siu of HKIAD were among the speakers.

UK Politicians and former UK Foreign Secretary call on Carrie Lam to order HKPF to show restraint in response to protests

Two British Parliamentarians, the former Speaker of the House of Commons, and a former Foreign Secretary have issued an appeal today to Hong Kong’s Chief Executive Carrie Lam, urging her to use her authority to order the Hong Kong Police Force to show restraint in its response to protests at Hong Kong’s Polytechnic University.
