Senator Jim Munson call for support HK political prisoners

Senator Jim Munson talked about Hong Kong affair, and started talking about Edward Leung Tin Kei, Spokesman of Hong Kong Indigenous.
“Sadly, I know one of the man who in jail. Edward Leung, I met Edward at June 2017, in my senator office at parliament hill, and he was a soft-spoken yet kind person. Soon on, look like most of us. He talked about how much he treasured the Canadian values of human rights, equality, democracy, and multiculturalism. He expressed his gratitude and honour of meeting our Canadian veterans two years ago, in a battle of Hong Kong commemoration ceremony. That moved him. And it moved me when he talked about it. I didn’t serve that at that part of the world in the Second World War. As an off of the case, he wanted to have a photo – we took together –  for Twitter, and promised to keep on working on our common goals. “

“Edward returned to Hong Kong, and continued to his widely support and leadership, commitment to the human rights and freedoms. Edward Leung, as we have seen, is now in jail. He was sentenced to six years in prison, in 2018, for his participation in a demonstration, and for his public support in democracy and independence. Senators, I was shocked by his well-being yesterday, and I was extremely upset when learnt earlier in this month, he was moved to a Category A – maximum security – prison which was reserved for the most dangerous offenders. This is no place… this is no place for a non-violent pro-democratic activist. “

“Edward’s live story of his active involvement in the Mong Kong protest in 2016. The details were in the documentary “Lost in the Fumes”. Time Magazine noted the film for the essential feel of the participants of the recent protests. And the recognized Edward, on the list of 100 next rising stars, is expected to save the future. As the situation in Hong Kong continues, I often think of Edward, and his family, and I’ve seen them – strengthened support from the senators of Canada, and I hope you do too – help to strengthen support to all of those, who are behind bars in Hong Kong. They don’t deserve to be there! “
