我是ACHK(Alliance Canada Hong Kong)的執行董事王卓妍,我等新成立的ACHK是由眾多支持民主的加國港僑團體匯聚而成。

My name is Cherie Wong, I am the Executive Director of Alliance Canada Hong Kong, a newly formed collective of pro-democracy Hong Kong community groups. ACHK is filling an important gap in the Hong Kong- Canadian discourse as a grassroots, youth-led, community organization. ACHK is mobilizing and empowering Hong Kong Canadians into civic-political action in Canada.

We condemn the Canadian government’s inaction on Beijing’s human rights atrocities.

It is no secret that the Chinese Communist Party is actively and violently suppressing human rights in China — from Hong Kong to occupied Tibet to occupied East Turkestan. In recent years, more and more reports are proving the existence of Beijing’s state-sanctioned genocide. And with more and more survivors speaking up, it is undeniable that the Chinese Communist Party is responsible for the death and suffering of Chinese nationals.

The Government of Canada has chosen inaction in the face of unspeakable tyranny. Our political leaders’ inaction is an act of violence. When we choose to look away from hatred and violence, we are choosing to allow these atrocities to continue.

We urge Canadian political leaders to examine Beijing’s influence over Canada’s public & private institutions.

There are concerns over instances where Chinese Government is intervening in Canadian affairs. For example:

Coquitlam School Board officials received an all expense paid China-trip through an arm of the Chinese government that funds Confucius Institutes

And the Chinese Government stepping in to comment on a private court case involving a private company CFO, Meng WanZhou of Huawei

These cases raise questions of the Chinese Communist Party’s influence and interference in Canadian institutions.

We question progressives’ silence on Beijing’s blatant violation of human rights and oppression of Hong Kongers, Tibetans, Uyghurs, and China’s own citizens

In the progressive community, they have always argued that human rights is not a partisan issue. Yet when it comes to discussion about China’s authoritarian ambitions and blatant violation of human rights, I am deeply disappointed that the progressive community that remains relatively silent compared to their conservative counterparts.

I am calling on the progressive community in Canada, why do you remain silent and complicit in Beijing’s violent oppression? Will you stand with us, survivors and victims of the Chinese Communist Party, in our battle for freedom and liberty?

On behalf of team ACHK, I am very excited to share with you the results of our community consultation. I want to take this opportunity to thank Citizen Press Conference for collaborating with us for this survey.

ACHK and Canada-Hong Kong community urge the Government of Canada to support the following “Canada’s Five Demands”:

1) Invoke the Justice for the Victims of Corrupt Foreign Officials Act to hold Chinese and Hong Kong officials accountable for human rights atrocities and police brutality;

2) Provide humanitarian support for Hong Kongers, Tibetans, Uyghurs, Chinese, and other groups seeking asylum from the Chinese Communist Party;

3) Protect Canadians’ fundamental freedom from erosion, and proactively combat Chinese Communist Party interference in Canadian media and politics;

4) Investigate foreign influence into Canadian public and private institutions;

5) Condemn China’s human rights violations, and end all exports of military/police goods and technology to China that are used for human rights violations by the Chinese Communist Party.

We have a long road ahead towards liberation of Hong Kong, occupied East Turkestan and Tibet, and China. In the liberation movement of marginalized communities, we must not leave anyone behind. We stand with Indigenous, Black, and marginalized communities in their advocacy.

Justice will prevail.
